Breakestra - Hit the Floor

Breakestra - Hit the Floor

Released on October 25th 2005, Hit the Floor was the 3rd album by Breakestra, however it was the 2nd album to be released on Vinyl and the 1st album to feature 100% of their own material.

The previous albums featured live back to back covers of classic drum fueled Funk breaks, and ‘The Live Mix 2’ was a life saver for the lone star DJ who needed to keep the party rocking during bathroom breaks.

Hit The Floor fuses Deep Funk, Soul and Hip-Hop.

The album masterfully recreates the authentic sound of 70s Funk, capturing the breakbeat essence the band’s name implies.

It’s well worth giving a shout out to the drummer Pete “The Buzzard” McNeal for his inventive, breakbeat variations and attention to detail on those kicks and snares.

However multi-instrumentalist, and founder of the Breakestra ‘Miles Tackett’, gets the props for droppin’ some heavyweight drum breaks on multiple tracks, Plus… adding Funkt Up Basslines, Groove Fuelled Guitars and High Octane Organs, with the occasional Backing Vocals dropped in for good measure.
Not forgetting that Miles is also responsible for the Production, Engineering and Mixing of this masterpiece. Thank you brother Miles…

“Family Rap”: featured in this clip is one of the many standout tracks on this album and features guest vocals from Charles Stewart aka Chali 2na and Courtenay Henderson aka Zaakir (Soup) of ‘Jurassic 5’ as well as Mike Turner aka Double K (RIP) of ‘People Under the Stairs’.
This track keeps a firm grip on the group’s Old-School Hip-Hop roots, delivering Positive flowing lyrics that give props to the pioneers of Funk Music and the DJ’s / B-Boy’s who grew up bouncing around record stores and flea markets looking for those fresh hidden breaks in the dusty old dollar box.
