Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is a Danish-rooted record label specialising in breakbeat, funk, Hip-Hop and sample-driven club music. The label grew out of the Breakbeat Paradise website, established in 1996 by Danish DJ and producer Boe Pedersen, aka DJ BadboE, as a resource for breakbeat musicians, DJs and producers. The website developed into a large archive of music, samples, mixes, competitions and community contributions. The label itself was established in 2006 by Boe Pedersen (DJ BadboE) and Kim Sørensen (Wiccatron). The original idea was to move the music and community surrounding the website into digital distribution, selecting what they described as the “cream of the crop” from the material being submitted and making it available through Breakbeat Paradise Recordings and distribution partners. Early releases came from artists connected to the breakbeat scene, including BadboE, Break the Box, B.B. Borne, Mick and Cyberworm. The label's early catalogue covered funky breaks, nu-skool breakbeat, electro and related styles, while its wider website continued to provide free samples, remixes, DJ mixes and music from its international community. Over time, Breakbeat Paradise Recordings developed a strong identity around funk-driven breakbeats and Hip-Hop, while continuing to release electronic and bass-oriented material. Its catalogue has included artists such as Morlack, Pecoe, Suckaside, The Breakbeat Junkie, Skank Honto, Sonale, Dal Platinum, Mista Trick and The Fritz & Funkanizer. The label's Toxic Funk series has become one of its most recognisable modern catalogues. The series concentrates on short, DJ-friendly 7-inch releases combining breaks, funk, Hip-Hop and electronic production. Recent volumes have included Dal Platinum – Toxic Funk Vol. 22, DJP – Vol. 23, Umbo – Vol. 24, Basement Freaks – Vol. 25 and Jayl Funk – Vol. 26. The label has also released full-length projects and longer-format records. Paul Sitter's Hip-Hop Delivery, released in 2023, brought together international MCs including Craig G, Andy Cooper, Birdapres, Chrome and Dr Syntax, combining new vocals with old-school Hip-Hop production, funk samples and turntable techniques. Another strand of the catalogue is dedicated to original funk rather than edits or sample-based production. The Funk Originals 12-inch, for example, brought together contemporary European funk groups including Grand Slam, Grand Mother's Funck, Nasa Funk and A Man About A Dog, presenting new recordings influenced by the classic funk bands of the 1960s and 1970s. Breakbeat Paradise continues to release both vinyl and digital music, with its current catalogue including 7-inch singles, 12-inch releases and LPs. The label's recent output continues its longstanding focus on breaks, funk and Hip-Hop while connecting that sound to contemporary producers and the international DJ community. The history of Breakbeat Paradise is therefore slightly broader than that of a conventional record label: it began as an online breakbeat resource and community, developed into a record label in 2006, and has subsequently become a long-running home for funk, breaks, Hip-Hop and DJ-oriented music on both digital and physical formats.
