DNA Edits is a 7-inch edit label founded by DJ DSK, focusing on funk, soul, Hip-Hop, disco and other groove-based material reworked specifically for DJs. The label's releases are built around extending, restructuring or adding to key elements of existing recordings, with an emphasis on breaks, dancefloor functionality and vinyl. (banquetrecords.com) The first DNA Edits release appeared in 2019, with DJ DSK's DNA Edits Vol. 1 issued as a very limited DJ-only 7-inch. It paired “Jungle Boogie (DNA Edit)” with “Got Your Money (DNA Edit)”. DSK described the record as a limited pressing of his party-rocking remixes. (djdsk.bandcamp.com) DNA Edits Vol. 2 followed in July 2019 with DSK's edits of Steve Miller Band's “Fly Like An Eagle” and Freddy y Sus Afro Latinos' “Maltrato”. The edits add new Hip-Hop-style drums and additional rhythmic weight while retaining important elements of the original recordings. (djdsk.bandcamp.com) The label continued with DNA Edits Vol. 3, which again featured DJ DSK reworking soul and funk material. Contemporary descriptions of the series emphasised DSK's approach of reworking, adding to, subtracting from and extending the source material to create dancefloor-focused versions. (banquetrecords.com) DNA Edits also developed a separate series of instrumental 7-inches, produced in response to requests from DJs. DNA Edits Instrumentals Vol. 1 included instrumental versions of “Love Thang” and “Just An Illusion”, while Volumes 2 and 3 included instrumentals of “Bad Girls”, “Need You Tonight”, “That's The Way Love Goes” and “The Thrill Is Gone”. The instrumentals were intended to be played alongside the vocal versions, used for new mash-ups or played independently. (banquetrecords.com) The label subsequently expanded beyond DSK's own productions. Releases have included material from artists such as DJ Agent 86, Didjelirium, O.Love, Ill Boogs and Shelley Mack, alongside collaborations with DJ DSK. Juno's catalogue lists DNA Edits as a label covering Hip-Hop/R&B, funk, soul and disco, with its releases predominantly issued on 7-inch vinyl. (juno.co.uk) One example is DNA Edits Vol. 7, released in 2022 as DNA 019. DJ DSK reworked TLC's “Creep” and paired it with “Das Ja”, an edit of a Bhangra recording. The release used filtering, bitcrushing and distortion to give the edits a deliberately rough, dancefloor-oriented character. (juno.co.uk) The label has also issued collaborations such as O.Love x Didjelirium x DJ DSK – “Refuse / Tonight”, demonstrating the move from a purely DSK-led project towards a wider edit label. (eat-records.jp) DNA Edits is therefore best understood as part of the modern DJ-edit and 7-inch vinyl movement: a label built around digging, reworking and extending funk, soul, Hip-Hop, disco and international grooves into records designed for DJs, dancers and collectors.
