Friday's Funky 45 is a record label dedicated to limited-edition 7-inch releases, with a catalogue spanning funk, soul, Hip-Hop, disco, breaks, house and DJ edits. The label has built its catalogue around producers and DJs reworking existing recordings into dancefloor-focused 45s, with releases generally issued as two-track singles. The series is closely connected with Dinked Records, which has pressed and released a number of the records. Early entries included Daytoner, whose Friday's Funky 45 Volume 7 featured two of his edits, “David's Doctor” and “Ooh Lalo”. The label's catalogue subsequently brought together producers from across the international edit scene. Red Astaire's “Rollin Stone” appeared as FF45-014 in 2021, followed by Jim Sharp and Nick Bike on FF45-015, with two versions of “Inner City”. Double A supplied FF45-016 with “Old Skool Bounce / It Really Matters To Me”. Friday's Funky 45 has continued to feature many established names in contemporary 45 culture. Releases have included records by Jim Sharp, Mr Thing, DJ A.D.S., DJ Marrrtin, Voodoocuts, Swift & P, Tony Lavrutz, Paul Sitter and Suckaside, among others. The label's 7-inch format is particularly suited to its approach. Voodoocuts' FF45-020, for example, paired “Got Jazz” and “Got Soul”, with the A-side reworking Stetsasonic's “Talkin' All That Jazz” with sitar and boom-bap drums. The catalogue has also included Hip-Hop reworks. DJ A.D.S.' FF45-023 paired a remix of Souls of Mischief's “‘93 Til Infinity” with a remix of 50 Cent's “Hate It or Love It”. More recent releases have continued to broaden the label's sound. Mr Thing's FF45-036, released in December 2025, paired “Saturday Dub” with “Up 2 U”, reworking Cherelle & Alexander O'Neal's “Saturday Love” and Michael Wycoff's “Looking Up To You” into two-step versions. DJ Marrrtin's FF45-037, released in January 2026, featured reworks of Kendrick Lamar's “TV Off” and the Latin recording “Que Se Sepa”. Friday's Funky 45 has therefore developed into a broad modern 7-inch DJ-edit series, connecting funk, soul, disco, Hip-Hop, breaks and house while maintaining a consistent emphasis on physical vinyl and dancefloor use. Its catalogue is notable for bringing together many of the producers associated with the contemporary 45-edit movement.
