Musclecuts is a record label focused on 7-inch DJ releases, with a catalogue combining reggae, dancehall, hip hop, breaks and mash-ups. The label is closely associated with DJ Shepdog, whose productions and edits form a significant part of its catalogue. One of the label's early releases was DJ Shepdog – “Dancehall Scenario / Bashment Buddy” (MC005), issued as a limited 7-inch in 2024. The record combines the instrumental of Bob Marley's “Stir It Up” and “Could You Be Loved” with the vocals from A Tribe Called Quest's “Scenario” on the A-side, while the B-side combines Beenie Man's “Dude” with De La Soul's “Buddy”. The release brings together reggae and hip hop in the mash-up style for which Shepdog is known. The next catalogue number, MC006, paired Sleeve – “Get It On / Hipness”. Both tracks had originally appeared in earlier forms, with “Get It On” first released in 2004 on Freestyle Records and “Hipness” dating back to a 1992 white-label release. Shepdog subsequently gave both tracks a further edit so that they could be issued on 7-inch through Musclecuts. The label's catalogue subsequently included DJ Shepdog – “Rolling In The Dub / Missin” (MC007). “Rolling In The Dub” is Shepdog's reggae/dancehall reworking of Adele's “Rolling In The Deep”, a version he had been playing for more than a decade before it was finally issued on 7-inch in 2025. The release also features “Missin” on the B-side. Musclecuts' records are consequently rooted in sound-system culture and DJ functionality, with familiar pop, reggae, hip hop and soul material reshaped into mash-ups, edits and reggae-influenced versions. The 7-inch format is central to the label, with releases generally produced as limited pressings for DJs and collectors. The label's catalogue is still relatively compact, but its releases have a clear musical connection: classic songs, reggae and dancehall rhythms, hip hop vocals and DJ-focused edits, with Shepdog playing a central role in shaping the label's sound.
