Shuggy Edits, also appearing as Shuggy 45s, is a UK-based 7-inch label and edit series centred on funk, soul, disco, Hip-Hop and rare-groove reworks. The records are aimed at DJs and collectors, with the label's releases generally presented as limited-edition 45s. Retailers classify the catalogue across funk, soul, disco, jazz and Hip-Hop, and the label has become associated with the contemporary 7-inch edit scene. The series began with Shuggy Edits Vol. 1, originally released in 2021 as SHUG1. The 7-inch paired a “CK Mix” with an original version, with the edits drawing on Chaka Khan's “Like Sugar” and the related Fatback Band / Sarah Ruba recording “(Are You Ready) Do the Bus Stop / Sugar.” The release was subsequently repressed in a limited jukebox edition. Shuggy Edits Vol. 2 followed in 2023 as SHUG2, featuring “I.W.Y.L.” and “B.P.C.” The A-side reworks Chic's “I Want Your Love”, while the B-side uses a source that was not publicly identified by the retailer. The release was promoted as a disco/funk 7-inch and received DJ support including from Craig Charles, Soopasoul and Marc Hype. Vol. 3 appeared later in 2023, pairing “A Jackson Thing” with “Funk Soup.” The record continued the label's focus on funk and soul edits and was issued as a 7-inch on Shuggy 45s. In 2024, Shuggy Edits Vol. 4 (SHUG4) featured “It's A Soul Thing” and an instrumental version. The release brought a contemporary Hip-Hop element to the label's soul-based approach, with vocals from Westside Gunn. Shuggy Edits Vol. 5 (SHUG5) followed in December 2024, with two versions of “Hard Times / Harder Times.” The A-side reworks Baby Huey's “Hard Times,” a 1971 Curtom recording that subsequently became an important source of material for Hip-Hop producers. The release was again pressed as a limited 7-inch. The label's catalogue therefore has a consistent identity: funk, soul and disco source material reworked into compact, DJ-friendly 45s, often concentrating on records with strong breaks, basslines and vocal hooks. With its small pressing runs and emphasis on edits rather than conventional album releases, Shuggy Edits sits firmly within the modern international 7-inch DJ and collector scene.
