Genre: Soul / R&B / Motown

Description:

Released on Motown’s Soul imprint in 1966, this single showcases Junior Walker’s signature tenor saxophone tone — gritty, urgent, and full of personality. “Cleo’s Mood” opens with a smooth, mid-tempo groove underpinned by Walker’s melodic sax lines, while the rhythm section locks into a tight Motown swing.

The B-side, “Baby You Know You Ain’t Right,” leans into more upbeat R&B territory with choppy horn stabs and call-and-response vocals that highlight the All Stars’ cohesive band dynamic. Both sides capture the essence of mid-’60s Detroit soul: danceable, emotionally direct, and brimming with Walker’s charismatic instrumental voice.
