Description:
This track moves into the funk era with full thrust. The groove is built on a solid rhythm section — crisp drums, rolling bass, tight guitar riffs — while Lee Austin’s vocal projects both grit and swagger. The chorus “I’m a man…” becomes an anthem of assertion, layered with horns, backing voices and a driving beat.
While the production rides the era’s funk‑wave, Austin retains soulful nuance: his phrasing and tone keep the song grounded in R&B tradition even as the band pushes toward dance‑floor torque. A strong example of the late‑’60s‑into‑’70s transition in soul/funk territory.
