Description:
This split 45 captures two essential slices of southern soul. Linda Lyndell’s “What a Man” is a fiery Memphis soul anthem — brassy, raw, and full of vocal grit. Produced by Isaac Hayes and the Stax house band, it’s the template for powerful female funk. The flip side, Billy Hawks’ “(Oh Baby) I Do Believe I’m Losing You”, dives into smoky organ-driven jazz-funk territory, driven by Hawks’ Hammond B3 and a tight rhythm section.

Lyndell’s “What a Man” later inspired Salt-N-Pepa’s 1993 hit “Whatta Man”, giving the track an enduring legacy across decades. The pairing of these two powerhouse performances on one reissue highlights the raw, soulful energy that defined the late ’60s soul underground.
