A-Side — Ms. Dynamite – Dy-Na-Mi-Tee (DNA Edit)

Originally released in 2002, “Dy-Na-Mi-Tee” was one of the defining tracks from British MC Ms. Dynamite's debut album A Little Deeper. Produced by Salaam Remi, the track brought together hip-hop, reggae and R&B, with its instantly recognisable groove helping it become one of Ms. Dynamite's biggest UK hits, reaching No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart.

The original's combination of laid-back rhythm, reggae-inflected production and Ms. Dynamite's confident vocal delivery gave it a crossover quality that still sounds remarkably fresh.

For this DNA edit, the emphasis is on making that familiar groove work harder in a DJ set. The core of the original remains intact, but the arrangement is tightened with a new intro and outro, giving DJs more room to bring the record in and out of a mix.

It's a good example of what makes an effective edit: rather than completely reinventing the track, DNA identifies what already works and gives it a more practical 7-inch structure.

B-Side — Special Ed – Come On, Let's Move It (DNA Edit)

The flip travels back to 1990 and the golden age of East Coast hip-hop.

“Come On, Let's Move It” appeared on Special Ed's second album, Legal, following the success of his breakthrough single “I Got It Made.” Where Ms. Dynamite's side leans towards reggae, R&B and modern soul, Special Ed brings the classic New York boom-bap feel of the late 80s and early 90s.

Special Ed's relaxed but technically sharp delivery sits over a sample-driven hip-hop groove, giving the track that unmistakable early-90s feel — stripped-back, rhythmic and built around the MC rather than elaborate production.

DNA's edit once again reshapes the track for the 45 format, adding fresh intro and outro sections that make the record easier to mix while preserving the character of the original.

The result is a particularly useful flip: where the A-side brings a UK hip-hop/R&B classic into the present, the B-side digs back into the golden-era New York sound.

The 7-Inch

Released by Spain's Hace Calor, this is the seventh release in the label's series and pairs two tracks from different generations of hip-hop.

Ms. Dynamite's “Dy-Na-Mi-Tee” represents the UK crossover sound of the early 2000s, while Special Ed's “Come On, Let's Move It” takes things back to 1990 and classic East Coast hip-hop.

DNA's contribution is deliberately functional rather than destructive: fresh intros, tightened arrangements and extended outros designed for DJs, while leaving the identity of the original records intact.
