Originally released on Roving Jewel’s 2020 album The 38th Expansion, “On Everything” is a beautifully understated piece of jazz-inflected hip-hop featuring Maryland MC Substantial. Roving Jewel delivers thoughtful, image-rich rhymes over a laid-back boom-bap groove, with melancholic guitar lines adding a soulful, reflective feel. The production has a distinctly jazz-rap character, recalling the sophisticated, head-nodding sound associated with artists such as Common.
B-Side – On Everything (Unreleased Instrumental)
The previously unreleased instrumental strips the vocals away and lets the production take centre stage. Funky bass and drums sit beneath lush strings, piano and those melancholy guitar phrases, revealing just how much musical detail is packed into the original beat. For DJs and beat heads, the instrumental makes this 7-inch particularly useful as well as collectible.

Roving Jewel is a Sacramento-based producer and MC whose The 38th Expansion brought together a wide range of underground hip-hop voices, including Planet Asia, Killah Priest, Prodigal Sunn, Casual and 9th Prince. “On Everything” sits comfortably within that lineage while leaning heavily into jazz, soul and boom-bap production. This Mukatsuku release is limited to 300 hand-numbered copies, making it the first physical 7-inch edition of the track and its previously unreleased instrumental.
