Description:
“Genuine” marks one of the earliest releases from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and in many ways, the record that lit the fuse for the modern soul revival movement. Recorded in raw, analog style at Daptone’s Brooklyn studio, the single captures Jones at her most powerful — fierce, soulful, and uncompromisingly authentic.
The A-side, “Genuine (Part 1 & 2)”, hits hard with thick basslines, snappy drums, and blazing horns, recalling the energy of late-’60s Stax and James Brown’s People Records. Jones’s voice commands attention, cutting through the groove with pure conviction.
A breakthrough for both Jones and Daptone, the single redefined modern funk and laid the foundation for a scene that would include Lee Fields, Charles Bradley, and The Budos Band.
Each record is meticulously cleaned and stored separately in a brand new polyligned inner sleeve, paired with its cover in a protective outer sleeve. All orders are shipped in designated heavy-duty vinyl shipping cartons, sealed with premium quality PVC tape and clearly marked as Fragile Vinyl Records to ensure safe passage to your door.
