Description:
Released on Desco Records, the early home of the now-legendary Daptone sound, “Dirty Red / Daisy’s Boogaloo” is a raw, analog funk 7″ that helped spark the late-’90s soul revival. Led by Neal Sugarman (who would later co-found Daptone Records and join Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings), The Sugarman 3 delivered tight, horn-driven grooves rooted in 1960s soul-jazz tradition.

“Dirty Red” is a fiery uptempo funk jam, powered by snapping drums, Hammond organ, and tenor sax that nods to the work of The Meters and Jimmy McGriff. The flip side, “Daisy’s Boogaloo”, slides into a looser Latin-influenced groove, showcasing the band’s mastery of Boogaloo-era rhythms and live instrumental interplay.

These early Sugarman 3 sides became staples for modern funk DJs and collectors, bridging the gap between the old-school funk of the late ’60s and the modern analog soul movement that would later define Daptone’s aesthetic.
