Description:
“The Wilhelm Scream / Eel Oil” showcases the band’s mastery of tight, analog-inspired grooves. “The Wilhelm Scream” opens with a punchy, horn-laden arrangement, propelled by crisp drums and a rolling bassline, immediately capturing the energy of classic 1960s and ’70s funk instrumentals. Its title nods to the infamous Wilhelm Scream sound effect which has been used in more movies than you could shake a stick at.
The B-side, “Eel Oil,” was the first song to be released by the Bamboos back in 2001, on the Bamboo Shack record label (self-released) and delivers a deep, wah-infused jam with Hammond organ and percussive guitar — a track that had already proven itself in earlier releases but is reissued here for its dancefloor-friendly groove. Both tracks have become staples in rare-groove DJ sets, celebrated for their live-band authenticity, analog warmth, and cinematic funk textures.
With these releases, The Bamboos solidified their reputation as one of Australia’s premier funk acts, capable of honoring vintage sounds while creating tracks that feel vibrant and contemporary, ensuring their music resonates in both collector circles and modern dancefloors.
