The Frank Popp Ensemble’s Ride On With The Frank Popp Ensemble is a sharp collision of late-60s Northern Soul and funk influences with the punchy production and breakbeat energy of early-2000s Big Beat. German producer and DJ Frank Popp builds the sound around Hammond organ, brass, guitar, bass, soulful vocals and hard-driving drums, creating a deliberately retro sound with a modern dancefloor edge. Standouts include “Hip Teens (Don’t Wear Blue Jeans),” “High Voltage,” “Belly Bossanova,” “The Catwalk” and “Goo Goo Muck.”
A record made by a DJ and producer with a collector’s ear, Ride On sits squarely in the early-2000s revival of Northern Soul, funk and vintage R&B. Its appeal to crate diggers is in the way Popp reworks those sounds for a new generation — tight breaks, Hammond grooves, brass, fuzz and soulful vocals delivered with the energy of a Big Beat record. “High Voltage” also appeared in the 2001 film Swordfish, while “Hip Teens (Don’t Wear Blue Jeans)” became a German Top 20 hit.
Each record is meticulously cleaned and stored separately in a brand new polyligned inner sleeve, paired with its cover in a protective outer sleeve. All orders are shipped in designated heavy-duty vinyl shipping cartons, sealed with premium quality PVC tape and clearly marked as Fragile Vinyl Records to ensure safe passage to your door.
