Description:
The Rimshots were one of All Platinum’s house bands — a tight, hard-grooving ensemble led by drummer Clarence Oliver and bassist Jonathan Williams. On “Save That Thing,” they deliver a deep, syncopated funk jam built on razor-sharp guitar stabs, punchy horns, and relentless rhythm-section interplay. The flip side, “Concerto In F,” reimagines George Gershwin’s orchestral classic through a gritty funk lens, layering wah-wah guitar and brass over a heavy backbeat.
Long a favorite among DJs and break collectors, both sides became staples on rare-groove and funk compilations. “Save That Thing”’s driving rhythm has been sampled by underground hip-hop producers for its pure analog punch, while “Concerto In F” shows the group’s versatility — bridging jazz, soul, and funk in a way that prefigured the acid-jazz movement of the 1990s.
