Veteran songwriter and performer Titus Turner delivers a double dose of early ’60s R&B charm on “Pony Train”, a dance-craze single that combined blues grit with pop rhythm, and the Latin-flavored “Bla Bla Bla Cha Cha Cha”, which playfully nods to the cha-cha dance trend of the era. Both tracks exemplify Turner’s knack for writing catchy, good-humored songs — he was also responsible for penning hits for Little Willie John and Ray Charles.

Though not a major chart success, “Pony Train” stands as an early example of R&B’s evolution toward the dance-oriented soul sound that would dominate the mid-’60s. Original Glover 45s are now highly prized among collectors of pre-Motown rhythm & blues.
