Welsh soul powerhouse Tom Jones pairs two strikingly different moods on this 1968 Decca release. The A-side, “A Minute of Your Time,” is a lush, orchestrated ballad showcasing his rich, emotive tone — classic Jones in full crooner mode. The flip side, however, “Looking Out My Window,” delivers a fiery, horn-driven soul workout that unexpectedly became a cult favorite among Northern Soul and funk collectors. Its tight rhythm section, powerful brass lines, and gospel-tinged vocal performance revealed Jones at his rawest and most soulful.
While not a major chart hit, “Looking Out My Window” went on to earn underground acclaim decades later, regularly featured in Northern Soul DJ sets and appearing on several acclaimed compilations, including “The In Crowd: The Story of Northern Soul” and “Move On Up: The Very Best of Northern Soul.” The track has since been celebrated as one of Jones’ funkiest and most authentic soul recordings — proof that his voice could go toe-to-toe with America’s best R&B singers of the era.
