Description:
“Play That Funky Music” is Wild Cherry’s irresistibly funky crossover smash — a self-aware anthem about a white rock band discovering the power of funk. Driven by Rob Parissi’s sharp guitar riff and rhythmic swagger, the track fuses rock energy with deep funk grooves, complete with tight horns and call-and-response vocals.
A Billboard #1 hit and enduring party staple, it became one of the best-selling singles of 1976 and earned the band a platinum record. The song has appeared in films like Undercover Brother and Pulp Fiction, and has been sampled by N.W.A. on “Gangsta Gangsta” to name just one example
