“Guest Mini Edits No. 8” feels like one of those modern edit records made by somebody who clearly understands why certain grooves survive for decades. It isn’t trying to reinvent disco, boogie, or jazz-funk — it’s just sharing solid grooves with those who may have missed them the first time around.
The A-side is essentially 'You Did It Good' by The LA Boppers, taken from their self-titled 1980 album LA Boppers. And honestly, that’s the appeal.
The original is already flawless:
sun-drenched disco-funk groove,
uplifting chord progression,
buoyant bassline,
shimmering keyboards,
and vocals that radiate warmth without ever becoming overblown.
It’s one of those genuinely euphoric crossover records that somehow feels sophisticated and effortless at the same time — the kind of track that instantly conjures rooftop parties, roller-skating jams, and open-window summer evenings.
What makes this edit so effective is that it respects the source material completely. Instead of over-editing or forcing modern club tricks onto it, Guest lets the groove breathe. The structure is tightened just enough for modern DJ play while preserving the fluidity and emotional lift of the original arrangement.
And the fact that it appears here on a 7-inch single for the first time is genuinely special. This kind of music belongs on 45:
The flip side, “Magic Dance,” is more mysterious, meaning I have no idea where it came from, but it has a totally different quirky groove which I am sure there is a place for somewhere...
